1. Brush your teeth after each meal
The clean freshness that you feel after brushing your teeth will serve as a signal to your brain and body that mealtime is now over. Psychologically, you are also less likely to want to eat as you will feel minty fresh, and not want to dirty your mouth afterwards.
2. Get most calories for the day in before noon
Numerous scientific studies have shown that the more you eat in the morning, the less likely you are likely to eat in the evening. This also gives you the rest of the day to burn off these calories, which you don’t get a chance to after your evening meal.
3. Snack on nuts
Snacking in between meals is never advised when managing weight. However, if you are feeling hungry, and you have hours until your next meal, a handful of nuts can be the perfect snack for you. They are naturally rich in healthy fats and protein, which will help you to feel full, and if you are recovering from weight training, will help to build your muscles back up.
4. Eat hot spices & Cajun seasonings
If you’re a fan of hot and spicy food, this one’s for you. Capsaicin is the chemical in chilli and peppers that make them hot, and has been proven in numerous scientific studies to boost sympathetic nervous system activity in a way that dampens hunger and calorie intake later in the day. This is by no means a panacea for all weight loss, but sprinkling a handful of chilli flakes on to your meals is a simple, cost effective and proven to help.
6. Take the stairs, park at the back and get off the bus early
If you are unable to train at the gym, or even if you do, take your opportunities to burn calories. Always taking the stairs as opposed to lifts and escalators, parking in the back of the car park (as opposed to nearest the entrance), and getting of the bus (or train) a stop or two early, are all simple ways to burn extra calories throughout the day, and over time all add up.
7. Get nutrients from whole foods
