Nutriseed Loves Deliciously Ella…

Ella Woodward burst onto the scene a few years ago with her blog, Deliciously Ella, and at Nutriseed, we’re big fans to say the least. Today she is known as a figurehead for healthy eating, with a strict vegan diet using all-natural ingredients, and also produces some truly awesome recipes. We can’t get enough of them!
However, before she produced her incredibly popular recipe books, her mobile app (which went to number one on the iTunes app store) and even opened her very own healthy eating deli, Mae Deli, Ella led an entirely different lifestyle.

Prior to all of this, back in September 2011 Ella was diagnosed with a rather rare condition, Postural Tachycardia Syndrome, which had a whole range of symptoms: constant tiredness (sleeping up to 16 hours a day), unbearable stomach issues, chronic pain and constant headaches – it’s fair to say that Ella was not in a good way. Not a happy bunny.

Six months on, after seeking conventional medication, Ella still found herself bed-bound, with most of these awful symptoms still persisting. It was then that she began her search for all-natural, holistic healing approaches. Just like that *snaps fingers*, overnight Ella began eating a whole foods, plant-based diet. She gave up all meat, dairy and wheat, and rid her diet of anything processed, or containing chemicals or additives. Before this Ella was a self-confessed ‘sugar monster’ – as mentioned on her blog:

“I literally never ate fruit or vegetables before, my diet instead revolved around Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, Chocolate, peanut butter and jelly eaten with a spoon, pick-n-mix and lots of cereal and pasta  – I was a sugar monster!”

These changes to her diet and lifestyle had incredibly significant effects on her illness and wellbeing – it restored her energy, stopped the constant pain, and enabled her to get on with her life. Within 18 months Ella was off all of her medication for good. (“Praise the Lord!!” *in a gospel-church-style voice*).

What’s increasingly fascinating about Ella’s story however, is that she had no culinary training or expertise at all – everything that Ella has produced or published comes from self-teaching, research and experimentation. It just goes to show how anyone can produce truly awesome nutritional gems.

The Mae Deli

In late 2015 Ella announced to her fans on her blog that she is was to open her own healthy deli. By the first week of January 2016, the Mae Deli opened its doors in London's Marylebone. 

Ella explained: “Our concept is all about mix and match rainbow bowls of goodness – think bowls of miso and sesame glazed aubergine, maple roasted sweet potatoes, wild rice and apricot salads, pesto butter beans, turmeric roasted cauliflower with lentils and tahini, butter bean dips and much more! You can then add on various types of salmon or chicken with marinades like lemon, chilli and thyme or smoked paprika and maple.” 

You can bet your bottom dollar the Nutriseed team have been down to sample the menu, and we can assure you it didn't disappoint!
